Biography
Born on May 3, 1987 in Istanbul, she is of Abkhaz origin on her mother's side and Circassian origin on her father's side. After graduating from St. Joseph French High School, she started her theater education at Paris Sorbonne University and completed it at Yeditepe University Theater Department. She studied violin for two years and piano for one year part-time at Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. She studied with Stuart Burney at the Black Nexxus Academy in New York.
In 2009, for her role in Bornova Bornova, she received the "Best Supporting Actress" award at the 46th Golden Orange Film Festival, the "Promising Young Talent" award at the Sadri Alışık Cinema and Theater Awards, and the "Young Witch" award at the Flying Broom Women's Film Festival.
In 2015, she served as the Young Festival Chairperson at the 18th Flying Broom Women's Film Festival and won the "Best Actress" awards at the 21st Golden Boll Film Festival and the Milan International Film Festival for her role in the film Sea Level.
Starting in 2012 with Tiyatro Yanetki's "Yalnız Batı" (The Lonely West) and continuing with "Savaş" (War) in 2014, the third play of her professional theater life is Pürtelaş's Constellations/Parçacıklar. She received the "Best Supporting Actress" award from Yeni Tiyatro Magazine for her role in the play "War".
Sönmez, along with theater and cinema, also takes part in television series. Along with TV series such as Gece Gündüz, Türkan, A Love Story and Güllerin Savaşı (War of Roses), he starred in the series Çukur in 2019, and in the same year, he also took part in the Netflix production Rise of Empires: Ottoman documentary series.
